BMI View: On the back of robust economic expansion, Cameroon's pharmaceuticals and healthcare sector
will continue experience high growth rates over the forecast period. As the drug market continues to
expand, and spending per capita on medicine increases from its current low base, Cameroon will slowly
improve its appeal to foreign pharmaceutical operators. For example, this is illustrated by Algerian Saidal
group recent announcement to begin exporting medicines to Cameroon. That said, Cameroon will continue
to represent a high risk market to foreign drugmakers, with a poor operating environment and the persistent
presence of counterfeit drugs in the country acting as significant challenges.
