Brazil Agribusiness Report Q2 2013

Publisher Name :
Date: 20-Mar-2013
No. of pages: 130

BMI View: Overall, we see the most potential for growth for the soybean, livestock and coffee industry over the medium term. This is because of a shift in food consumption growth towards Asia for these items, while traditional buyers'' demand will experience only subdued growth. We are positive about the sugar cane sector as a whole, as we see strong sugar cane production growth over the rest of our forecast period. This growth will benefit the ethanol industry first as ethanol economics are now favourable to biofuels production at the expense of sugar. In the short-term, we flag risks that the current record grain harvest will encounter problems at the export stage because of current queues at the country''s major ports and upcoming strikes. Among Brazilian agribusiness companies, we favour São Martinho because it is the largest player in the sector and the most likely to benefit from industry developments.

Key Forecasts

  • Sugar production growth to 2016/17: 16.8% to 43.1mn tonnes. Because replanting has been slower than initially expected, we project average growth over our forecast period. There are upside risks to our view.

  • Coffee consumption growth to 2016/17: 11.5% to 22.3mn bags. Coffee consumers in emerging markets that do not have a strong coffee culture are often very price-sensitive, which will drive demand for the cheaper robusta given its lower production costs.

  • Algeria Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 10-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 62
BMI View: With wheat and dairy production systematically short of consumption, Algeria is a major importer of food products. However, the government's new emphasis on the improvement of food selfsufficiency is helping to revive the grains and dairy sectors. While higher government support is likely to be positive for productivity and product quality in the medium term, Algeria will remain a key importer of wheat and dairy products in the coming years. The country is incre......
  • Turkey Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 10-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 71
BMI View: We favour the sugar sector in Turkey because of the strong growth potential of the country's confectionery industry and our belief that large changes to the country's sugar production quotas are likely to occur in the coming years. We continue to see resilient growth in the livestock sector on the back of continued government support. Grains and rice production will recover in the 2016 season following the drought seen in 2014. Key Forecasts ? Wheat ......
  • France Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 03-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 75
BMI View: Grains production will see limited growth over the next five years as prices remain weak and France faces competition from other European producers on the export market. French dairy farmers will be among the EU's outperformers due to steady import demand for their cheese production. French meat production will suffer from continued weak demand from other EU countries, the traditional importers of French meat. Key Forecasts ? Wheat production growth ......
  • India Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 03-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 88
BMI View: We hold a positive view on the outlook for India's agribusiness sector, as the country will remain an agricultural powerhouse and should be able to maintain high levels of self-sufficiency for major food crops. Production growth of various commodities will be driven by strong government support and robust demand growth for manufactured foodstuff. We see significant growth opportunities in sub-sectors such as dairy, coffee and livestock. However, India will be in......
  • Kenya Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 03-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 56
BMI View: Kenya will continue to underperform its regional peers with regard to the development of its agricultural sector. Despite COMESA granting a one-year extension to the sugar import safeguard, which will provide a short-term boost, we expect the country's sugar sector to remain regionally inefficient and therefore to post very limited growth over the coming years. However, we continue to forecast steady coffee production growth due to relatively high domestic price......
  • South Africa Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 03-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 67
BMI View: We continue to hold a mixed outlook for the South African agricultural market as a whole. Both corn and wheat will be hit by severe drought and the effects of El Niño, but we do expect grains to rebound over the course of our forecast period. Furthermore, livestock production and sugar consumption will both embark on a positive trajectory. Over the medium term, a weak rand, weather volatility and falling farm incomes will exert downward pressures on the market. ......
  • Uganda Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 03-Feb-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 57
BMI View: We see potential for output growth in corn and coffee, two of the main crops in Uganda. For coffee, we see Uganda as an East African leader in terms of exports, largely owing to government support for the sector and new disease-resistant trees. Moreover, coffee prices are higher y-o-y, meaning farmers will be able to invest in their crops. We expect Uganda to remain a net corn exporter in the coming years, although most of its corn will be shipped regionally. Th......
  • Bangladesh Agribusiness Report Q2 2016
Published: 27-Jan-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 58
BMI View: We hold a cautious outlook towards the Bangladesh agriculture sector over the short term. The limited amount of arable land available for acreage expansion, as well as poor safety standards, will constrain growth over our forecast period. Structural problems still plague the industry, in particular the logistical challenges of food transportation within the country. Over the long term, we believe there is much more room for growth and improvement in sub-sectors ......
  • Central America Agribusiness Report Q1 2016
Published: 27-Jan-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 97
BMI View: We believe that Central America's agribusiness industry will continue to grow - albeit inconsistently across sectors - through to the end of our forecast period in 2019. Along the way, the different sectors of the market will be forced to grapple with an array of headwinds that will directly impact output growth across some countries in the region. As a result of rising incomes and growing populations, as well as an improving real GDP outlook for the region, we ......
