Spain Oil and Gas Report Q3 2013

Publisher Name :
Date: 5-Jun-2013
No. of pages: 95

BMI View: The pace of economic recovery and renewed growth is critical to Spain’s energy market, as it
will drive the country’s demand for oil and natural gas – virtually all of which is imported. Spain is a key
conduit for gas pipelines from Algeria and is a major receiver of liquefied natural gas (LNG), an area
where further capacity expansion is possible once the economic outlook improves. Shale gas could
potentially offer improved self-sufficiency, but is unlikely to revolutionise the energy outlook. Meanwhile,
Repsol has started to undergo a strategic shake-up following the Argentine government’s privatisation of its
YPF unit.
The main trends and developments we highlight in Spain’s oil and gas sector are:
? Due to a change in historical data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the modest
Spanish Oil consumption outlook we have lowered our 10-year Crude Oil consumption forecasts.
According to the EIA, Spain is estimated to have consumed 1.29mn b/d in 2012 and we expect demand to
average 1.34mn b/d in 2017, increasing further to 1.40mn b/d by 2022. No meaningful local oil supply is
available, meaning crude imports will reach at least 1.31mn b/d by 2017 and 1.38mn b/d by 2022.

  • Qatar Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 45
BMI View: The Qatari power sector is set for strong growth over the coming decade as the government continues to spend heavily on new infrastructure projects, while domestic energy consumption continues to grow. There is no sign of a let-up in government spending on the horizon, particularly as the emirate gears up for the FIFA World Cup in 2022. With the economy in good shape, and demand for power likely to continue rising over the next few years, the electricity sector is in good stead. T......
  • Slovakia Oil and Gas Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 98
BMI View: Slovakia has above-average energy import dependency compared with the regional average. The country remains dependent on Russia, but a recently announced EUR5.9bn EU infrastructure programme aims to allow for more flexibility when negotiating gas purchases and may boost supply. The key trends and developments in Slovakia's oil and gas sector are: ? Slovakia is almost entirely dependent on Russian oil and gas imports for its domestic consumption, with a total hydrocarbon import bil......
  • South Africa Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 70
BMI View: This quarter we have slightly revised our forecast to factor in some domestic supply from the Ibhubesi gas field in 2017. That said, our fundamental assumptions remain relevant. Our negative outlook for South Africa's power sector is based on inefficient existing generation capacity, a lack of investment, delays to project commissioning and the precarious financial situation of Eskom. These factors show little sign of abating over the short-to-medium term - with wide-ranging implic......
  • Spain Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 71
BMI View: Spain's electricity market is struggling in the face of a new regulatory environment and a sluggish economy. Keen to cut costs, the government has reduced renewable energy subsidies, but it risks the wrath of providers who invested in the market expecting high returns. Recently, US company NextEra filed a complained making it the fourth official complaint of this kind. In June 2014 the Government approved a retroactive policy to replace feed-in tariff in an attempt to bring down th......
  • Sudan Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 60
BMI View: The end of the long period of warfare provides an opportunity for investors to exploit the hydrocarbons base and ample sunshine to develop a generation capacity in Sudan and South Sudan. However, the commercial environment is hostile and the political environment remains highly unstable. The outlook for Sudan's power sector is moderate. The end of the long period of warfare provides a window of opportunity for the country to exploit its ample sunshine and large hydrocarbons base to......
  • Tanzania Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 63
BMI View: The outlook for Tanzania's power sector is good. The government has responded to a massive increase in the demand for electricity by opening up the sector to private investment and allowing foreign companies to develop the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. Accordingly, thermal and renewable energy will enjoy strong growth over the forecast period. Meanwhile, the government is rapidly expanding the transmission network and access to the grid. However, macroec......
  • Argentina Power Report Q2 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 65
BMI View: Argentina's power generation grew by 5.3% in 2014, as the Atucha II nuclear plant went online after years of delays - a crucial step in the government's ambitious nuclear expansion plan. Nevertheless, the country continues to suffer from poor power infrastructure and insufficient installed capacity, as highlighted by an agreement to start importing Bolivian power by the end of 2015. The recent sovereign default has further damaged the business environment and prompted us to expect ......
  • Uganda Power Report Q1 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 58
BMI View: The outlook for Uganda's power sector is good. Following an unbundling of the power sector last decade and a commitment by the government to diversify beyond a traditional dependence on hydropower, the country is now developing the capacity to generate both thermal and renewable energy. This will underpin a near doubling in electricity generation over the next decade from 3.3TWh in 2015 to 5.8TWh by 2023. During the same time timeframe, demand for electricity will also double from ......
  • Argentina Renewables Report Q2 2015
Published: 30-Jan-2015        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 38
BMI View: Despite an attractive regulatory framework and ambitious government plans for expansion, we maintain a relatively bearish outlook towards the Argentine renewables industry. An unappealing business environment and limited project financing opportunities will continue to limit the sector's growth potential over the forecast period. Argentina's positive regulatory framework for renewables on the surface looks appealing to investors. For example, the country has adopted an ambitious t......
