Spain Oil and Gas Report Q3 2013

Publisher Name :
Date: 05-Jun-2013
No. of pages: 95

BMI View: The pace of economic recovery and renewed growth is critical to Spain's energy market, as it
will drive the country's demand for oil and natural gas - virtually all of which is imported. Spain is a key
conduit for gas pipelines from Algeria and is a major receiver of liquefied natural gas (LNG), an area
where further capacity expansion is possible once the economic outlook improves. Shale gas could
potentially offer improved self-sufficiency, but is unlikely to revolutionise the energy outlook. Meanwhile,
Repsol has started to undergo a strategic shake-up following the Argentine government's privatisation of its
YPF unit.
The main trends and developments we highlight in Spain's oil and gas sector are:
? Due to a change in historical data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the modest
Spanish Oil consumption outlook we have lowered our 10-year Crude Oil consumption forecasts.
According to the EIA, Spain is estimated to have consumed 1.29mn b/d in 2012 and we expect demand to
average 1.34mn b/d in 2017, increasing further to 1.40mn b/d by 2022. No meaningful local oil supply is
available, meaning crude imports will reach at least 1.31mn b/d by 2017 and 1.38mn b/d by 2022.

  • Argentina Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 117
BMI View: Highly prospective acreage, a strengthening competitive landscape and supportive pricing dynamics will help insulate the Argentine shale sector from aggressive clawbacks in industry spending. A shift toward a more centrist government under the newly inaugurated Macri administration will open up significant investment opportunities in Argentina, particularly within the oil and gas sector. As such, the core Neuquén shale province will experience increased developm......
  • Brunei Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 61
BMI View: The new refinery and petrochemical complex at Pulau Muara Besar will support the further diversification of Brunei's economy away from crude oil exports, creating new revenue streams from more specialised products. Brunei will remain a net LNG exporter. Latest Updates And Key Forecasts ? Brunei's hydrocarbon reserves are forecasted to remain on a downward trend over the next 10 years. However, ambitious government plans to revive Brunei's upstream sector p......
  • Canada Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 166
BMI View: Our growth outlook for Canada's oil and gas industry remains modest given mounting headwinds in both the upstream and midstream sectors amid a low oil price environment. The greatest threats are unfavourable project economics and regulatory headwinds that will hamper the growth of oil sands-driven production, midstream expansions and LNG terminal development. This is exacerbated by the likely drop in exploratory activity throughout Canadian acreage as companies ......
  • East Timor Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 64
BMI View: Timor-Leste is set to experience declining crude oil and natural gas production over the next decade as its two producing fields remain in decline. Additionally, the small domestic market size makes it uneconomical to build a refinery in the country, which will result in rising refined fuels imports over the coming years. Latest Updates and Key Forecasts ? We maintain our exploration outlook this quarter, with limited upside risk to exploration given limit......
  • Egypt Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 135
BMI View: Pledged investment in upstream developments and LNG imports will be crucial to meeting gas demand over the next five years, while the Zohr discovery could solve Egypt's gas challenges in the long term. Policy slippage with subsidy reform and payment schedules to oil and gas companies, pose the largest risk to slowing the positive momentum. We highlight the following trends and developments in Egypt's oil and gas sector: ? Eni successfully completed the fir......
  • France Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 103
BMI View: The overall level of investment in exploration and production in France remains weak and this trend is unlikely to alter significantly without an end to political opposition to exploration of shale oil and gas resources. Plans to begin production of gas from coal bed methane by 2017 could provide a muchneeded boost to domestic output, but uncertainty over the project continues. Though downstream margins have benefited from cheaper oil prices, the long-term outlo......
  • Libya Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 109
BMI View: Progress on peace negotiations has been slow and major barriers remain to formation of the Libyan unity government. We expect the government to take office in 2016, returning a significant tranche of shut-in production. However, the security environment will remain fragile, while chronic underinvestment, substantial damage to infrastructure and a lack of maintenance works will all drag on the recovery. The downstream sector also faces major headwinds, due to the......
  • Netherlands Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 81
BMI View: Strong legal, political and social pressures are and will continue to see large production cuts at the key Groningen gas field. This will greatly reduce the Netherlands' role as a key swing gas supplier to Western Europe over the decade, with net exports nearly disappearing by the second half of our forecast period. ? Given the mature status of the Netherlands' key Groningen field and many of its offshore fields, we expect gas reserves will steadily declin......
  • Papua New Guinea Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016
Published: 13-Apr-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 84
BMI View: PNG is on course to become the third largest LNG exporter in the Asia-Pacific by 2019, supported by output from ExxonMobil's PNG LNG project and Total's Papua LNG project, which is expected to come online in the latter half of the decade. Longer-term upside risks to our forecasts remain, with a potential for a third standalone LNG project based off Horizon Oil's Stanley gas project. The main trends and developments we highlight for Papua New Guinea's oil and gas......
