Cosmetics embrace skin-care lotions, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail and toe nail polish, eye and facial make-up, towelettes, permanent waves, coloured contact lenses, hair colors, hair sprays and gels, deodorants, hand sanitizer, child products, bath oils, bubble baths, tub salts, butters and lots of different forms of products. A subset of cosmetics is called "make-up," which refers primarily to coloured merchandise supposed to alter the person's appearance. Many manufacturers distinguish between ornamental cosmetics and care cosmetics. This broad definition includes, as effectively, any materials supposed to be used as a component of a cosmetic product. The FDA particularly excludes soap from this category.
