Philippines Retail Report Q4 2016

Publisher Name :
Date: 14-Sep-2016
No. of pages: 63

BMI View: Growth in the Philippines' retail market will be supported by rising wages and disposable

incomes, with a young urban population keen to make aspirational purchases. We expect significant

opportunities for expansion and new market entrants in urban areas, as lifestyles become more

aspirational. However, opportunities diverge markedly between urban and rural areas. The overall low

urbanisation rate, the country's geography and the relatively low incomes of rural dwellers mean that

opportunities to expand outside the cities will remain limited.

Key Trends & Developments

? Total household spending is forecast to rise significantly between 2016 and 2020, from USD224bn to

USD319bn.

? The majority of household retail spending will continue to go towards essentials, with food and nonalcoholic

drinks at 38.2% of total household retail purchases in 2016, followed by housing and utilities at

22.0%.

Published: 21-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 55
BMI View: Angola's retail market offers enormous growth potential. Economic diversification in the country is supporting improvements to household income rates; and the middle class population is growing, which will stimulate demand for a range of non-essential products. That being said, the retail market faces the significant short-term challenge of a more subdued economic outlook, caused by falling oil prices (Angola's key export) and the high rate of inflation. Widespr......

International retailers are attracted by business-friendly policies and this has helped boost competition in a number of key sectors. Despite this, some segments are beginning to become saturated and o......

BMI View: Four new shopping centres in Q416 and H117 will see increased spending from both wealthy expats and Qataris, as the capital Doha seeks to usurp Dubai's seat of regional dominance in retail infrastructure and supply. Household spending will increase by 8.2% in 2017, up from a forecast 6.8% in 2016. The stabilisation of the international hydrocarbons markets has made the rapid expansion of Qatar's retail sector a much less risky opportunity than in previous quarte......

Published: 14-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 62

In addition to several new malls that have opened in Accra since 2013, two more will open in Kumasi in 2017, expanding the total available real estate stock - crucial for new brands to either grow or enter the country. Traditional and family-owned vendors will still capture a large share of total retail sales in 2016 and beyond, due to income constraints experienced by Ghanaian households, most of which will......

  • Turkey Retail Report Q4 2016
Published: 14-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 63
BMI View: Turkey's retail industry benefits from a large urban population that is enjoying steadily rising incomes. Over our five-year forecast period to 2020 we expect economic growth to be fairly slow but steady, averaging 3.3% a year. This growth will support a rise in net household incomes from USD12,375 in 2016 to USD15,049 by 2020. However, in the medium term the retail sector will be held back by political and security concerns that will dampen both investor and co......
