Oman Power Report Q4 2016

Publisher Name :
Date: 14-Sep-2016
No. of pages: 55

BMI View: Oman's power sector is expected to undergo a big jump in output in 2019, as several major

projects come to full fruition in the gas fired thermal power segment, which will remain dominant over our

forecast period. Generation growth should be in the mid single digits over the period 2016 to 2018 and then

the low single digits between 2020 to 2025, according to our core scenario, although that latter five year

period is prone to upside risks, in view of nascent fresh plans emerging in the last quarter.

Latest Updates And Structural Trends

? Our forecasts have undergone a modest revision this quarter. We now expect generation to rise 5.7% in

2016, to 39.35TWh, a slight downward revision from the 6.2% growth earlier forecast.

? Growth in thermal output is then forecast at 4.0% in 2017 and 6.4% in 2018, ahead of a 30.9% jump in

2019, which will take generation by this sub-sector to 57.0TWh. The year 2019 will see the Ibri and

Sohar projects come to full fruition.

BMI View: The outlook for Argentina's power sector is improving steadily due to the reforms introduced by the Macri government. The country will continue to suffer from tight power supply and a weak electricity infrastructure over the next few quarters, but we expect the market to offer growing opportunities over the coming years as the government implements plans to attract investment into new conventional and renewables power capacity. BMI View: Power generation in Côte d'Ivoire will grow at an annual average of 6.8% up to 2025 as the government invests in additional power projects on the back of high real GDP growth. Gas-fired output will remain the dominant source of electricity generation over our 10-year forecast period. Hydropower investment will remain limited due to vulnerability to droughts and government commitments to diversify the power sector. ? Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of Petroleum an......
  • Ethiopia Power Report Q4 2016
Published: 21-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 59
BMI View: Ethiopia's state-driven investment model raises the likelihood of successful project delivery - particularly hydropower megaprojects that will dominate our forecast to 2025. At this stage, our forecasts are conservative based on the huge scale of the country's hydropower expansion plans and concerns that disputes over water rights could lead to delay, but we do expect to upgrade the forecast as projects move into the construction phase owing to robust government......
  • Turkmenistan Power Report Q4 2016
Published: 21-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 58
BMI View: Gas-fired power will be Turkmenistan's only source of power generation over the next decade as robust gas production, substantial gas reserves and limited gas export outlets will do little to incentivise power mix diversification. The government will aim to boost gas-fired power to boost electricity exports, but we expect security threats to interconnections to limit the viability to such plans. With contracting sources of revenue, the government will be pressur......
  • United States Power Report Q4 2016
Published: 21-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 86
BMI View: Growth in natural gas-fired capacity and renewables will be the pillars of the US power market as a result of the availability of cheap natural gas and the extension of tax credits for wind and solar power plants. Meanwhile, investment in power infrastructure will be necessary for the system to keep up with growth in intermittent renewables and distributed energy solutions. In the absence of support from public funding, nuclear power will struggle amid low whole......
  • Czech Republic Power Report Q4 2016
Published: 14-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 57
BMI View: Power generation growth will be mostly stagnant in Czech Republic with a decline forecast for 2020 and 2022 as the Temelín nuclear reactors are decommissioned. Thermal power will remain the dominant source of power generation to plug the deficit left by nuclear power decommissioning, while development of non-hydropower renewables will be held back by lack of government support for FiTs. Slow progress in getting new nuclear capacity online will result in Czech Re......
  • Denmark Power Report Q4 2016
Published: 14-Sep-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 52
BMI View: This quarter our fundamental assumptions for Denmark continue to be relevant. Taking into account positive macroeconomic expectations for the Nordic region as well as sector trends, we continue to expect power consumption growth in 2016. Similarly, we maintain our long-held view that, while growth expectations in the region are improving, economic woes in the eurozone remain a major risk factor for the consumption and generation outlook of the country, as more r......

The government has set ambitious targets to rapidly expand domestic electricity capacity and generation over the next five to ten years and has enacted a number of measures to encourage private foreign investment in the power sector. Despite a significant project pipeline w......
