The North American automotive industry is one of the fastest growing industries across the globe. The region is home to some of the biggest names in the automotive industry such as Ford Motors Co., General Motor Co., and others has been at the forefront of technological advancements and innovations. In the recent past the industry was struck adversely by the economic meltdown of 2009 but the industry has recovered and is now back on its track to reach record heights over the period of next five years.

The North American vehicle production is dominated by LCVs which have gained importance in the market owing to their load carrying and off-roading capabilities which make them viable for small scale business owners. This vehicle segment already the market leader in terms of volume is expected to further extend its dominance with an industry topping CAGR of 8.19%. The market has shown incline towards gasoline and is expected to remain dominated by gasoline powered vehicles only but diesel and other fuels are expected to make inroads into gasoline’s dominance over the course of next five years.

U.S. is the biggest market for automotive industry in the North American region and has been traditionally the technological leader across the globe. The large customer base in the country and high disposable income levels have fuelled the demand for vehicles which in turn has resulted in increasing manufacturing activities by automotive OEMs in the country. Mexico is closely following the U.S. vehicle production in terms of growth and is touted as the New Detroit of the North American region. The country’s vicinity to major export markets and availability of cheap labor and land in the area are attracting attention from OEMs across the globe.

The report also discusses the qualitative aspects of the market such as the market dynamics, Porter’s five forces analysis, Pestle Analysis, and others which provide an overview of the forces shaping up the industry in the region. The influx of electric and alternately-fuelled vehicles in the region has been one of the major topics of discussion among the automotive OEMs and has stirred the market for further participation.

The report covers the vehicle production in the North American industry over the period of 2011 to 2018 in terms of volume, segmented by country (U.S.; Canada; and Mexico), by vehicle type (Passenger cars; light commercial vehicles; and heavy commercial vehicles), and by fuel type (gasoline; diesel; and others).

Published: 20-Aug-2014        Price: US $4650 Onwards        Pages: 180
Since the inception of the automobiles in the year 1886 by Karl Benz, vehicle operations have taken a big leap as the carriage used in the first car was a horse buggy. Steam engines were used in earlier times in order to power the automobiles which were later replaced by internal combustion engine. The turning point for the automobile industry was the introduction of line production by Henry ford, during which the single or two cylinder engines were replaced by four cylinder engines. The car ind......
  • Zambia Autos Report Q4 2014
Published: 20-Aug-2014        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 44
Zambia's strong economic fundamentals, such as substantial investment inflows to the mining sector, improving productivity in the copper sector, expansionary fiscal policy and a rise in private consumption, will prove beneficial to the long-term outlook for auto sales. Despite downgrading our 2013 real GDP growth outlook last quarter, we maintain our overall optimistic outlook for new vehicle sales in the country. The new car segment in Zambia, although still small, will be supported by growth i......
  • Gabon Autos Report Q4 2014
Published: 20-Aug-2014        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 35
In the first quarter of 2014 we revised up our forecast for 2013 new vehicle sales in Gabon from 3.8% to 9% y-o-y, on the back of a better than expected vehicle sales performance in the first half of 2013, when the Union of Automotive Industry Representatives (URAI) estimated that new vehicle sales grew 9% y-o-y, 3,062 units, in H113. We are of a similar view this quarter. We forecast total sales to rise 7.8% in 2014, to 6,225 units. Growth will average 8.1% in 2014-2018. Passenger car growth wi......
  • Zimbabwe Autos Report Q4 2014
Published: 20-Aug-2014        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 49
After an estimated 2.9% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in new vehicle sales in 2013, we forecast robust average growth of 15.9% y-o-y between 2014 and 2018 in Zimbabwe. Although it appears that private consumption in Zimbabwe slowed in 2013, we believe that this component of GDP will accelerate in 2014. Although private consumption will remain relatively robust and will be the main driver of headline real GDP growth in 2014 and in the years thereafter, the vehicles market will continue to rely on ......

  • Angola Autos Report Q4 2014
Published: 20-Aug-2014        Price: US $1295 Onwards        Pages: 47
BMI forecasts car sales in Angola to increase 21% in 2014, predicated on our bullish outlook for private consumption in the country. We expect inflation to moderate somewhat over the year, and access to credit for many Angolans to improve, which should serve to boost car sales over the year. We expect the exchange rate to remain relatively steady over the course of the year, which should help to stabilise the cost of imported vehicles into the country and further boost sales. As with many emergi......

According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), auto sales rose 0.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) in June 2014 to 452,555 units. We highlighted in April that we expected sales to take a hit after the hike in the national consumption tax on April 1 and, true enough, sales contracted in April and May (see 'Auto Sales Set To Decline As Tax Hike Bites', April 4). That said, the decline in sales was not as sharp as we expected and this has prompted us to revise our full-year forecast upwa......

As a result of a data released from the Kenyan Bureau of Statistics BMI has slightly downgraded its GDP forecast for 2014 to 5.0%, down from 5.7%. Even this slower acceleration will still be a significant improvement compared to the low growth seen between 2008 and 2012, when annual real GDP expansion averaged just 3.8%. Further supporting vehicle sales is the rising private consumption and increased dealer presence in Kenya. As a result of this and off the back of strong new sales and productio......
