Hong Kong Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q4 2016

Publisher Name :
Date: 07-Sep-2016
No. of pages: 43

BMI View: Despite a shaky outlook in 2016 on the back of weak Chinese demand, we expect that Hong

Kong's trade will enjoy positive real growth this year, following a contraction in 2015. Things will improve

onwards from 2017, but imports will continue to drive growth in total trade, with exports growth set to

remain comparatively weak.

Latest Updates And Forecasts

? Hong Kong continues to struggle to remain a major global player in container shipping, and following a

drop in box throughput volumes in 2015, we forecast a fifth consecutive year of declines in 2016. Growth

will return in 2017 but will remain only modest over the course of our forecast period to 2020. Beyond

that, the port authorities will need to make substantial investments in order to encourage a return in

growth.

? Although we anticipate a return to growth in Hong Kong's road haulage sector in 2016 - following five

consecutive years of contractions - the expansion will be sedate. A poor outlook for Hong Kong's

external trade will hamper growth.

  • Australia Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 30-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 56
BMI View: While we are not overly optimistic about Australia's freight industry over the medium term, we do envisage positive growth to remain the order of the day across the various modes. The outperformer in the freight mix will be rail in 2017, although road will see larger gains than rail as of 2019 as weakening demand for Australia's minerals - especially from key trade partner China - will stymie growth in the rail freight sphere over the medium term. Domestically, ......
  • Belgium Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 48
BMI View: Belgium's strategic location as a crucial geographic hub linking Europe's largest economic will continue to drive growth. Air freight will be the fastest growing mode in 2016 although total volume carried by air remains minor compared to road and rail. The mode will benefit from increased production of pharmaceutical goods driving exports by air while road and rail will continue catering to domestic freight transport needs and trade with neighbouring countries. ......
  • Canada Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 56
BMI View: We anticipate positive growth rates for Canada's freight modes and sea ports in 2017 although slow economy expansion will stall growth to some extent. Road will record the highest increase in tonnage carried, just ahead of rail with road also the dominant mode, facilitating domestic freight transports and US trade. In 2016 we saw some ports experiencing a contraction in throughput due to weaker Chinese demand however we forecast in 2017 that both tonnage and con......
  • Chile Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 44
BMI View: The outlook for Chilean trade is fairly negative over the coming years, despite our expectation that real GDP growth will strengthen in 2017. The troubled copper mining sector and a slowing domestic construction sector will result in slower demand for Chilean exports and imports, and this will weigh on the freight transport sector in the country. Key Figures And Forecasts The road haulage sector will underperform over the coming years, outpaced by road and......
  • Egypt Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 54
BMI View: We anticipate a robust expansion in total trade in Egypt in 2017, in real terms at least. However, there will be a second consecutive year of declines in the nominal value of trade. This will be driven in part by an anticipated slowdown in imports growth, following what we believe is an inevitable devaluation of the pound before the end of 2016. Latest Forecasts and Updates ? Despite a mixed outlook for consumer demand in 2017, we expect that project cargo......
  • Estonia Freight Transport and Shipping Report 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 43
BMI View: Freight volumes carried across all modes will experience expansion in 2017 and throughput for Estonia's Port of Tallinn will increase. Positive economic growth - seen throughout the past five years and - aids domestic demand and benefitting all modes. Healthy private consumption will support the anticipated increase in imports while improved conditions in European economies and enhanced relations with other trade partners will increase export volumes. Road will ......
  • Hong Kong Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 41
BMI View: Tonnage carried across Hong Kong's freight modes will increase in 2017 despite weaker Chinese demand dragging on potential. Air freight is anticipated to be the fastest growing mode, slightly ahead of inland waterways which remains the dominant sector. Healthy domestic demand will support the Port of Hong Kong with container traffic expected to recover to positive growth rates in 2017. Latest Updates And Forecasts ? The under construction Hong Kong-Zhuhai-......
  • Hungary Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q1 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 44
BMI View: Hungary will enjoy a positive expansion in real and nominal trade volumes in 2017 as well as over the course of our forecast period. Strong growth in household spending power will support increased imports of containerised consumer goods. However, in terms of exports, we note salient risks, given that a number of Hungary's major regional trade partners are set to endure uncertainty and weaker real GDP growth in the wake of the UK's decision to leave the EU (Brex......
  • Slovenia Freight Transport and Shipping Report 2017
Published: 23-Nov-2016        Price: US 1295 Onwards        Pages: 42
BMI View: Slovenia's freight sector is poised for healthy growth in 2017 and over the medium-term forecast period to 2020 as imports and exports are both expected to continue performing strongly over this time. 2016 will have likely been the high point for the country's economy, but resilient external demand and a strong tourism sector should ensure the current account surplus remains relatively robust over the medium term. In terms of specific freight modes, the outperfo......
