  • According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Sweden is one of the lowest-carbon-emitting countries in the organization. As part of its energy policy, the government has set the target to be independent of fossil fuels by 2030 and to be a country with no net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. To achieve these targets, it plans to invest in renewable energy projects. Investments include the construction of a wind farm in Markbygden, Stor-Blaliden and the Gulf of the Bothnia Sea.

  • In order to improve the residential construction market and thereby increase the housing supply for its citizens, an amount of SEK3.2 billion (US$384.0 million) per annum has been made available for companies constructing student accommodation and rental properties, as part of the government’s 2016 budget. Private sector investments will also support the residential construction market’s development.

  • Sweden is expected to record an increase in healthcare investments, as the proportion of elderly people (aged 65 and above) is expected to increase from 1.9 million in 2013 to 3.0 million by 2060.   • The Swedish housing market registered a strong performance in 2014, amid moderate economic growth. According to Sveriges Riksbank, the number of new construction projects for multi-family housing increased by 16.0% in 2014, when compared with 2013. The number of new construction projects for multi-family housing, increased from 23,656 units in 2013 to 27,436 units in 2014. The number of new multi-family housing starts, increased from 13,891 units during the first half of 2014 to 14,233 units in the same period of 2015.
